PRINCIPLE OF REPETITION AND EXERCISE Principles are important in the teaching and learning process because they help teachers shape their boundaries and behaviors and form the foundation of their teaching identities One of the Principle of teaching that we have discussed here is the “Principle of Repetition and Exercise” PRINCIPLE OF REPETITION Repetition is an effective and natural mechanism for consolidating what has been studied. “You learn by doing and repeating”. It is a key principle in learning and teaching that helps students retain information and skills over time Principles of repetition in education are: • Repeating the learning that you wish to undertake several times to allow your brain and body to retain the information or skills as necessary. • The principle of repetition in education states that learning materials and their outcomes should be repeated multiple times to improve learning and knowledge retention. FOR EXAMPLE: This is true whether it be reading or mathematics formula, until it is memorized or kicking a football at a goal until you have perfected a technique “what's repeated gets remember, and what's remembered get repeated” PRINCIPLE OF EXERCISE The principle of exercise in teaching and learning states that people remember things best when they are repeated often. This principle is based on the idea that learning continues with every practice, and that people create learning habits through practice. Here are some ways to apply the principle of exercise in teaching and learning: • Provide opportunities for practice: Provide students with opportunities to practice, and repeat important material at regular intervals. • Make practice meaningful: Ensure that practice is directed towards a goal. • Use a variety of practice methods: Use a variety of practice methods, such as manual drill, physical applications, review, and summary. FOR EXAMPLE: Teachers can have students practice spelling words by writing them three times and then using them in a sentence. The Role of Exercise in Learning “Repetition & Exercise is a key learning aid because it helps transition a skill from the conscious to the subconscious. ”
